The winter session of Indoor games championship of JSHM, started with a bang in Pavilion stadium, Fatehgunj on 25th February’2012.

Loud thuds of feet hitting the wood and crank of smashes soon filled the auditorium. The spirits were soaring and the enthusiastic participants let everyone know that they meant business. The cheer and slogans of audience added spice to the ambience.

Students from different batches and JSHM staff took part in the games. On one side it was the fast sport of Table Tennis, where the light ping pong was getting whacked by graphite rackets to all corners. On the other side the shuttle cock was getting placed to immaculate perfection.

The event started with badminton singles, where Ms. Rajvi Kiri from the 1st Year IGNOU batch won the Badminton Ladies’ Singles Title by defeating Krushika Mehta of Cezar Ritz Higher Diploma batch. Mr. Madhusudhan G.from the Cesa’r Ritz second year batch won the Badminton Men’s Singles title by defeating Mr. Srinath Achar. The Badminton doubles saw Mr.Srinath Achar and Mr. Gautam Shastry claiming the title by defeating Mr. Robbie Mathew and Mr. Balu John Maris. It was an all faculty final.

There were many light hearted moments too. The compulsive need of Madhusudan to argue at every line call, invention of a new game called Bad-Tennis were just some of the lighter moments. Be sure to watch these videos.

The day winded up at 04.00 PM. It was a day full of fun and excitement. The day was a well-deserved break for both the students and faculty from the hectic academic schedule.

- Krushika Mehta.

In High Spirits !

One of the highlights of semester-3 studies at JSHM is the Beverage Studies (B&B) course conducted by Mr. Robbie Mathew. A classroom aptly named “Martini” is where these classes are held.

Being in the dry state of Gujarat, many students have grown up with misconceived notions about beverages. They have also been fed on unnecessary hype through peers. Fortunately for them, they have Mr. Mathews, who guides them with his balanced outlook towards spirits.

Friends know of Robbie as the “Encyclopedias of beverages”. His passion rubs on other JSHMites too. There is never a dull moment at B&B classes here. The huge collection of bottles & labels at Institute is supplemented with even bigger personal collection of Mr. Mathews for students to benefit.

Over the years Robbie has kept on adding newer interactive methods of making these classes even more fun. Some activities that leave a lasting memory in the minds of wards are :

  • Wine tasting trip to Nasik
  • Bar set ups
  • Tea tasting sessions
  • Mocktail competitions

The spirits are always high at JSHM’s Bar & Beverage sessions. It’s no surprise that most alumni regard these B & B sessions at Martini as the best classes ever.

Swiss Hotel Management Studies at Discounted Price

The hotel and service industry has become one of the largely sought after industry these days since the spurt of Tourism in the modern age. Professional Hotel Management Qualifications have become a requisite to get jobs in reputed properties.

Switzerland is known as the birth place of Hotel Management Education & Swiss Hotel Schools is among the most reputed Institutions. They have good reason too. Swiss hotel schools are the most acclaimed in the world. The first ever Hotel School was started in

Switzerland hundred and twenty years ago. Since then a lot good schools have come into being. Now the students have more options than ever in the case of selecting a school for education and training. The advantages include better recognition, higher pay, and a faster growth in career.

The only fault one can find with the educational institutes in Switzerland is the fee structure, which may seem exorbitant at first look. The Swiss Franc or Euro is stronger than most currencies of the world & thus when you convert the fee to your local currency the fees look astronomical. As for regular person, to pay the fee, he/she might have to take huge loans, where interests might be too high, due to the sheer volume of the loan.

Here are some suggestions to reduce the education expenditure. In search of International students, Swiss Hotel Management colleges have tied up few chosen colleges all over the world. Such institutes are called sister concerns or affiliated colleges. Affiliated colleges provide same standards of education at local prices; this makes the course affordable to students. The best part of this system is that a student studying in sister college gets internationally transferable credits). What this education also does is that, a student may be able to do further higher education at a lower price since a part of the course has already

been completed or scholarships are available. This truly presents students with the opportunity of attaining international exposure in the field of hospitality, it is simply invaluable!

The hotel and service industry has become one of the most sought after industry these days since the boom of Tourism in the modern age. Today to get into a hotel, a good educational background in the hotel industry is essential because of the extreme competition. And everyone who wants to get a degree or diploma in hospitality wants to go to Switzerland or France. They have good reason too. Swiss hotel schools are the most recognized in the world. The first ever Hotel School was started in Switzerland hundred and twenty years ago. Since then a lot good schools have come into being. Now the students have more options than ever in the case of selecting a school for education and training. The advantages include better recognition, higher pay, and a faster growth in career.

The only down side that I see to a foreign education is that, it might not be affordable to everyone who seeks a foreign Degree or a Diploma. When the fee is converted to your local currency it will be really high and might end up in a astronomical figure ! As for regular person, to pay the fee, he/she might have to take huge loans, where interests might be too high, due to the sheer volume of the loan.

Here are some suggestions to reduce the education expenditure. There are educational institutions which have affiliations with foreign Universities or Colleges. These colleges give an opportunity to students to attain international education that translate into credits (depending on the number of subjects taken by them). What this education also does is that, a student may be able to do further higher education at a lower price since a part of the course has already been completed or scholarships are available. This truly presents students with the opportunity of attaining international exposure and in the field of hospitality, it is simply invaluable!

How to select a good hotel management college

December 24, 2010 by admin · 1 Comment

If you have opted to pursue hospitality studies, choosing a good hotel management college to join is a crucial decision. The options present are plenty. You can choose to study in your own country or in a foreign land. You also have to worry about the fee structure & living expenses in an alien land. However the most crucial part is finding out the quality of the school.

The general parameters used to rank an educational institute are:

  • Quality of course content
  • Affiliations & recognitions of various universities
  • Quality of faculty
  • Student teacher ratio
  • Classrooms, facilities etc.

Before deciding on the hotel school, one has to answer the question; “why am I doing this course”. Once you get the answer to that question, it is very easy to find out if the school is suitable for you.

Let’s look at an illustration:

If your aim is to be employed as a chef in a reputed hotel after finishing the course, the most important criteria to select your college would be to check:

  • The quality of food production laboratories.
  • Number of alumni in kitchens across the world.

The above to factors are in fact the most important for any top hospitality school. Since you will end up spending more hours doing practical than studying theory, the equipments & quality of the laboratories will be a very important factor to rank the hospitality school.

It is said that the proof of the pudding is in eating. The reputation of the school, course content, quality teaching staff is of no use if the alumni of the college do not end up with successful careers. It will be wise to keep this in mind & speak to few ex-students from the hotel management institute before deciding to enroll there.
