-----------------------------------
Questions:
Q. Being the Placement manager at JSHM, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the
students?
My role is to provide Training and Placement opportunities for our students. We begin the process
by first counselling the students. I believe It’s important to listen and understand the students hopes
and aspirations for their future before we begin the placement process. After all, at the end of the
day it’s the student who has to enter the workplace.
Q How do you try to bring in practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?
Hotel management education is practical oriented and we at Jindal School ensure that our students
are involved in all aspects of their learning. Apart from practical classes in college, the curriculum has
events which are organized by students. This gives them an opportunity to apply the knowledge
gained in classrooms at a practical level. We also encourage our students to participate in outdoor
catering events and to apply for part-time jobs. Having work-related experiences enhances their
skills, boosts their self-confidence and also makes them aware about current industry trends and
expectations.
Q. What are the best practices followed by Jindal School of Hotel Management, to the students
which help them gain necessary skills during the internship?
At JSHM, we don’t partner for internships with everyone for various reasons. For an internship to be
meaningful, employers have to understand their obligation to mentor and educate the intern and
not just look at the interns as a source of cheap labor. One of the ways we vet employers is by
meeting with them before we partner with them. During the conversation, we discuss both the
mentorship, and the development of the student. This practice of ours has helped us to build strong
partnerships with like-minded industry colleagues. Also, we keep in constant touch with our
students and visit them during their internships.
Q. What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from your
department or How does your department prepare students for Higher education?
Like I mentioned earlier, at JSHM we first talk to the students. During counselling sessions, the
students are provided with options for their future career. We encourage the students to choose
careers or higher education options based on their aptitude and passions. Once, the student chooses
an option, we then focus on helping them prepare for achieving their particular goal. Quite often we
invite our alumni who are working or studying to talk about their journey after they graduated from
JSHM. Since hearing one of their own speaking about their experiences is much more relatable to a
student. We also invite industry experts to give an insight about the different career opportunities
available.
Q. How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside
world?
We groom our students not just for a career but for a successful and happy life. Keeping this in mind
we guide and prepare our students right from the day one. We encourage our students to be
proficient not only in their academics but also to be aware and knowledgeable about society in
general. We encourage them to participate in competitions and other social activities. This improves
their confidence level in their abilities, helps them develop excellent interpersonal skills and also
provides a glimpse of the challenges they will face when they step out into the job market.
Q. What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career
ahead?
Work in a job that you have talent for, and you love doing. Do concentrate on your material goals
but do not forget to have a life!

Real Spanish Omelette - Easy Recipe
For more information visit: http://jshm.co.in ( Current events section)
Enjoy this Spanish omelette recipe as demonstrated by chef Sunil from Jindal School of Hotel Management ( JSHM). The dish is also known as Spanish tortilla de Pata or Tapas.
Real Spanish Omelette - Easy Recipe
Ingredients:
Potatoes 800 grams
6 Large eggs,
A pinch of Salt & Pepper
Extra Virgen Olive Oil for frying
1 large Onion ( Optional)
Even though the ingredients are few and preparation is not too complicated, each of us will still produce a different taste and texture. The final result depends on the quality of potatoes, the oil, and the method you employ to fry them and even the tools used to make them. We guarantee that this method will give you super fluffy results every time,
1. The first step is to slice the onion and potatoes.
2. Break the eggs into a bowl and add salt & pepper.
3. Heat the oil and fry the potatoes till they are cooked. It takes about 3-4 minutes.
4. Once cooked, remove the potatoes ( strain all the oil) and keep them aside.
5. Add the potatoes into the egg mixture.
6. Add in also the parsley.
7. Take an Omelette pan and saute the onions till translucent.
8. Add the egg and potato mix to the omelette pan.
9. Let the Omelette cook on medium flame.
10. It's time to flip the Omelette. Use a large plate to flip the omelette
11. Now, Slide the Omelette back into the pan.
12. Cook it on a low flame for about 1 minute.
13. Using the earlier technique, flip the Omelette on to the service plate.

5 surprising facts about hotel star ratings!
For more information Visit : http://jshm.co.in ( Current events section)
https://jshm.co.in/2020/06/16/5-surprising-facts-about-hotel-star-ratings/
In the age of social media all our decisions are based on ratings and user opinions, but the hotel industry is among the few businesses that has always used ratings and benchmarks to help patrons make their decisions. Now we’re all aware of the star ratings, and some of us even know a thing or two about how these ratings work, but we seldom see how much attention ratings pay to the minutest of details.
Here are five things you probably never knew about star ratings and surely they will make you proud of the benchmarks the hospitality industry pursues!
#1 The 800+ Point Checklist
While star rating criteria differ across the world, a common checklist with over 800 points largely determines what star a hotel property manages to attain. This checklist consists of points to do with the property itself, the facilities, adherence to local laws, and most importantly customer service.
#2 Customer Service First
Over 70% of the factors that determine a hotel’s rating are related to quality in customer service. Surprisingly, most people believe that the it’s the property that matters more to a rating, but for the hospitality industry customer service is what comes first always.
#3 Bathrooms Matter
5 star hotels are typically associated with luxury and rightly so. But what is surprising is that the one of the biggest indicators of luxury is the number of bathroom fixtures. 5 star hotels must have at least 5 bathroom fixtures, generally including two sinks, a bath, a standalone shower, and a toilet. Many hotels even add bidets and climate control to go the extra distance in building glamorous bathrooms!
#4 News is Critical
Not many people know of this, but a newspaper can make or break hotel rating aspirations. While 3 star hotels need to at least have a reading stand with newspapers for guests to read, 4 star hotels must deliver a daily newspaper to all guest rooms. But to be able to get to a 5 star rating, hotels must offer a minimum of two choices of international newspapers and one local newspaper to each guest.
#5 Because Swimming Induces Thirst
This is one of those really lofty standards, but 5 star hotels are mandated to have a swimming pool equipped with poolside service on their premises. The poolside service must also provide complimentary refreshments to guests for every 90 minutes spent at the pool. So if a guest spends three hours at the pool, failing to offer refreshments twice could jeopardize hotel ratings.
While most guests who stay at 4 and above star hotels tend not to notice most of the intricacies of hotel ratings, hotels work tirelessly to exceed the high benchmarks set for them. At Jindal School of Hotel Management, we groom aspiring hospitality professionals to understand the customer service values that define the hospitality industry and imbue these values in them to create industry leaders. A practical teaching pedagogy and world class facilities mean that our students learn the practical aspects of working in a hotel and are ‘customer service’ ready from day one.
